Some dogs have trouble regulating dopamine. This is often the result of human-driven genetic selection. These dogs struggle in situations where valuable things are available, but not quite within reach. Dopamine makes them fast learners—but also makes frustration hard to handle. Add young age to the mix, and you’ve got a bit of a firecracker.
In such cases, it’s helpful to establish clear rules and remove the most arousing rewards from the equation.
