I ate a shrimp

On our walk, I found a shrimp—one of many someone dumped in front of the building. It was delicious. I’ll be going back there. Now I’m off for a nap. Wishing you all a great day and fulfilled life goals.

Scavenging—eating thrown-out food scraps—is completely natural dog behavior. The chance to search for and find food is incredibly rewarding for dogs. Just look at how well they remember where they found something tasty—that tells you how important it is to them.

Thousands of years of evolution taught dogs to eat what they find. And now, suddenly, we expect them not to. Keep that in mind next time you’re mad at your dog for trying to grab something on the street. Sure, we want to protect them from eating harmful stuff—but it’s worth also considering the dog’s perspective and maybe getting a bit less angry. It’s a good idea to teach your dog to trade found items for rewards.

According to dog etiquette, food belongs to the one who found it. So if your dog shares it with you—that’s a kind gesture, not a duty.
