I freak out

I’m ready for absolutely any challenge… though sometimes I totally freak out.

Right after adoption, most dogs live in a state of heightened stress—after all, their whole world has just flipped upside down. It takes time to adjust.

In this period, a dog might react nervously to everything—or, on the flip side, seem totally shut down and show no signs of stress at all.

It’s worth doing everything possible to lower their stress by making the world feel predictable and safe.

On the other hand, dogs coming from shelters or rescues often haven’t had many chances to make decisions in their lives. For them, it’s incredibly important to be able to face challenges and feel the success of overcoming them.
