Traditional studies on social cognition have focused mainly on primates. But Miklósi, Topál, and Csányi suggested we look in a different direction—at dogs.
Through thousands of years of evolution alongside humans, dogs have adapted to life in a human environment. This shift in ecological niche transformed their:
👉 communication
👉 social behaviors
👉 and attachment patterns
What’s especially interesting—dogs learn socially from humans. That’s a big deal, especially since many puppies are separated early from their mothers. Humans become their main source of regulation and knowledge about the world.
This research opens up a new perspective on social cognition—not through the lens of biological relatedness, but through relationship and co-evolution.
